Jewels in the Mulch

Lime jewels poke out

Like tiny bits of lipstick

Whispering spring’s song

As I approached the walkway today I spotted bits of green hiding in the mulch. Our landscape will be a drab brown for bit longer, but I am seeing beauty in the dullness that has replaced the blanket of white. The birds are singing. It’s still light out at 7:00 pm. And the mercury has climbed into the 5os for two consecutive days, Hip hip hooray! Today I am thankful for glimpses of spring!

Happy Poetry Friday and the 18th day of the SOLS at the Two Writing Teachers blog. Visit Andromeda at A Wrung Sponge for the Poetry Round-up.

  3. Wow. I will forever and always now see these new flowers as 'bits of lipstick." And I will think of you. 'Still owe you a book - I have not forgotten! A.
